Singer-songwriter SANNIA releases James, her debut album. It’s a collection of meaningful songs that reveal who she is piece by piece.
With love you like, SANNIA starts off on a high note, making you curious to find out what else comes next. The synths sparkle during the chorus, for example. The lyrics talk about caring so much about someone, but not receiving the same level of affection in return. august keeps you enthralled through its driving instrumentals. They harmoniously complement the theme of long-lost love.
It’s said that lead single stuck in your orbit is the saddest bop of the autumn because it fuses the ache of a love that wasn’t fulfilled with a dance-pop melody that keeps in your mind. doubts is perhaps my favorite track on this album, due to what it tries to accomplish. Somehow, it moves my heart.
Other tunes such as the good ones, salvation, and lay your heart down are in the same vein, but still so different. You really need to hear it.
SANNIA shared that the common theme running through this project is an on-again-off-again relationship that spanned from her late teens into her early twenties. Like many relationships during that stage of life, it had a deep impact on how she perceived herself, others, and how she treated herself. This experience prompted her to take a step back and reevaluate all the pieces of her life, ultimately leading to her journey of self-reflection and rebuilding.
James is one of the best pop projects of this year. The usual level of excellence has been far surpassed. SANNIA understands the true potential of music, and she should never stop creating it.
