Returning with their first new music since their 2019 debut, Leeds’ art-rock connoisseurs Drahla have today announced their new album, Angeltape, set for release April 5th via Captured Tracks. Accompanying the announcement, the four-piece have shared its latest single, ‘Default Parody’.
The single merges off-kilter guitars with unpredictable saxophone melodies, and harmonious but metallic-sounding vocals. Of the track, vocalist and guitarist Luciel Brown states:
it’s controlled chaos, lots of different ideas that resolve at some strange harmony. It was the first realisation of writing something from start to finish with the addition of Ewan on guitar so there’s more freedom of interplay and from our previous roles in the band.” Brown continues, “Lyrically it’s taken inspiration from Shakespeare’s ‘to be or not to be’. It’s navigating loss of life and life with loss. ‘To be, I see, what is, to be’ it’s a one-way deconstructed conversation with yourself. The video was created at home by us with the assistance of my brother George Brown.
The inspiration for Drahla’s second album was found in listening to and following each other in recording sessions, becoming more experimental than it would’ve been if the band had taken inspiration from external sources. The result? An awe-striking, multi-sensory experience that gets more intriguing with every moment you spend with Drahla.
Drahla are set to head out on a mega 36-date tour across Europe and the UK in May and June of this year.
