The Backlash deliver 90s Britpop with vintage psychedelia

If you’re a fan of artists like Scottish psych-rock duo Man of Moon then you’ll love the new single ‘As Real…’ from Milan quartet The Backlash.

The Italian band, comprising of Francesco Luca and Alessandro Gatto (guitars and vocals), Giuseppe Musto (drums) and Corrado Carnevali (bass), the band are creating psychedelic rock and shoegaze with a renewed passion for creating music.

‘As Real…’ is about all those things which bring up deep emotions, joy and fears even if they have no physical existence. Musically, the track is filled with gritty and fuzzy guitars and vintage psychedelia. There are nods to The Verve and Radiohead, the band’s rawness is also lifted by the 90s Britpop influences and kaleidoscopic sonics.

Since forming in 2013, The Backlash are psych rock figureheads in Milan’s underground music scene. Spotted by “Dj Henry” (aka Enrico Lezzeri, a well-known name for Italian Northern Soul and Mod fans), the band got signed and released their debut EP ‘3rd Generation’.

The Backlash took two years out to record their debut album ‘Mindtrap’ in 2018 and have since been on an upward projection. Support slots with We Are Scientists and The Academic further supported the band’s progress and have even had a single mastered by 90s Britpop veteran Frank Arkwright ((The Smiths, Joy Division, New Order, Oasis, Primal Scream, Blur, The Charlatans…) at Abbey Road Studios in London.

To accompany the release of ‘As Real…’, the band have uploaded a music video, check it out below.
