New York City’s Monobloc today share their debut single, ‘Where Is My Garden’, accompanied by a black-and-white music video directed by the band themselves. Filled with energetic guitar riffs and a powerful, uplifting chorus, this song signals the emergence of a promising new band.
Emerging from the depths of New York City’s vibrant DIY scene, Monobloc, led by singer Timothy Waldron and bassist Michael Silverglade, is a thrilling new endeavour created by a pair of friends who possess a mutual appreciation for blending pop influences with a unique urban post-punk edge.
Michael had the following to say about their new single:
I wrote the guitar riff years ago, long before Monobloc was even a thing. We’ve never had more iterations of a single song idea, it just never came together. Yet, I persevered, and after we wrote the first couple of Monobloc tracks, we dug up the old demo.
Tim then continues on its themes, ‘Attached to the main riff of the song was this chorus I really wanted to use but could never find a place where it made sense. “Where is my garden, where are my friends? Will it always feel like the end?” It was a great wide theme – a bit Springsteen and better yet, the closest I could legally get to saying “Where are your friends tonight.”
Monobloc’s strengths are rooted in their exceptional storytelling abilities, combining texturally rich, visceral, and emotionally charged details with a minimalist instrumentation. The band, completed by Zack Pockrose on drums, and guitarists Ben Scofield and Nina Lüders, seamlessly blends into the artistic landscape of NYC while maintaining a unique and distinct sound of their own.
Monobloc will be making their UK festival debut this August at London’s All Points East in support of LCD Soundsystem, following a warm-up show at the capital’s Sebright Arms. They are also scheduled to perform at Rock En Seine and Kalorama Festival in the EU later that month. In addition, they will be heading to Reykjavik for Iceland Airwaves and then to Mexico for Corona Capital later in the year.
