Need Some Study Music? Try Montresor’s AUTOPOIESIS

If you’re like me, lyrics can ruin a good reading session… or even a study session… or, occasionally, even a writing session. While I don’t listen to instrumental music as often as lyrical music, I need some good instrumental music in certain settings in order to survive. Enter Montresor.

Montresor’s latest album – Autopoiesis – is instrumental music of the highest order. With progressive rock, avant-garde jazz, and classical influences, the music flows between soundtrack tones, post-rock musings, rock flavored medieval vibes, and King Crimson-esque prog glory. Each song hovering in the 5-8 minute range (other than the shortest-on-the-album-but-still-longer-than-most-radio-songs gem “Homunculus), the album may only be 8 songs, but is probably the longest album this particular reviewer has covered in quite some time.

If you find yourself wanting to try a single track on for size before committing to the album, the opener is a great start. It plays with a variety of the flavors that the album toys with all in one track. At roughly 5 minutes, “Vanishing Fog” isn’t one of the lengthier track, either. The second track, while clocking in over 7 minutes, is also a fantastic way to wet your proverbial whistle – as “Famrland” playfully navigates an improv-jazz tpe landscape that would appeal to fans as wide ranged as those of Chicago, Captain Beefheart, and Dream Theater.

But alas, it’s truly time to experience Monstesor’s Autpoiesis for yourself. Stream on Spotify (below) or available to stream or download at Bandcamp, check it out today. Your next study session will thank you.
