Ghost Wounds: “Slow Apocalypse EP” – A Timely Soundtrack for Today’s Turbulence

Hailing from Eastern Pennsylvania is Ghost Wounds! In perfect timing for current events, the band has released a 3 song EP titled “Slow Apocalypse EP” (via Better Living Through Records / Engineer Records) featuring songs about personal, national, and global devastation. The song is available on streaming platforms and also in vinyl form. I really enjoyed this record and I’m excited to provide a track by track recap about this incredible EP.

The opening track, “Fate of Lust,” is the first song the three-piece band wrote together. It starts with haunting distorted guitars, keeping listeners on edge before the drums and vocals kick in with a unique rhythm. The track pulls the listener into a sound filled with tension and massive emotion, resting between punk and grunge due to its attitude-filled, angst-ridden vocal delivery. Lyrically, it explores themes of lust and love, describing a situation where lust ends in toxicity instead of turning into a positive relationship.

The song seamlessly transitions into “Crossed Heirs,” my personal favorite on the record due to its energetic performance. The vocals are unforgettable, accompanied by a heavy bass, impressive drumming, and haunting electric guitar leads. The lyrics address a national issue, feeling especially timely given the current abuse of power and the upcoming presidential election. Many people seem entrenched in their own ideas, power-tripping, and harboring hatred towards those different from them. This song arrives at the perfect moment, capturing the essence of these ongoing issues.

Next, we dive into “Inferno,” a track brimming with tense electric guitars. This song tackles global issues and corporate greed, making it feel particularly timely given the ongoing conflicts overseas, such as the Israel/Gaza war. My favorite aspect of this song is the drums, especially the snare sound. “Inferno” is charged with heavy energy, serving as an anthem to unleash rage.
