sad films shares hazy and melodic indie pop

Putting off life admin to collect antiques, Manchester-based sad films is putting his melodic and synth-ridden indie pop on the map.

Releasing his debut EP ‘Exchange Unpleasantries’ last month (July 18), the Salford Salfordian singer-songwriter Dan Lucas lets his creative impulses flow. The EP is an eclectic and boundless collection of five songs that weave their way through the likes of R.E.M., David Bowie and Father John Misty.

‘Past Tense’ kicks off the EP with playful lyrics and catchy melodic riffs. Synth-driven ‘S.O.S.’ offers elements of shoegaze and anthemic choruses whilst ‘Piggy’ turns the level down a notch with soft, playful acoustic guitar flicks and orchestral-esque atmospherics.

Exploring themes such as falling in love whilst time travelling, ‘Exchange Unpleasantries’ is a deep dive into a tapestry of vivid imagery from a life television raised, bringing you unapologetically into their world with playful lyrics dressed in high-quality melodic fabric.

In the short time sad films has been active, he and his band have played sold-out shows with popular Manchester-based band, Manilla Times, as well as supporting international artists AINAKANNA, who recently travelled from Japan for their Autumn 2023 UK tour.
