Jared James has recently released his 4 song EP, “Send Me True North.” This EP is a collection of songs that come from the heart, showcasing true emotions without holding back at all. We hear themes of love, partnership, support, loss, and healing, with songs dedicated to his wife, son, and late best friend. These songs are reflections of the range of emotions Jared James has recently experienced and showcase how deep his love runs for the people closest to him. He shares his story with his life lessons throughout the lyrics on this EP, which could be impactful for people of all ages. This EP leans towards a pop rock sound. The production quality is excellent, with every instrument feeling clear in the mix and perfectly balanced. There are even some amazing guitar solos sprinkled in! Jared James’ voice sits on top of the instrumentation, so every lyric can be heard without any struggle. His lyrics truly matter and deserve much of the attention. He says, “As an artist, this has been my post personal record. It’s my life as a 36-year-old husband and father, my experiences with a wide range of emotions from love and happiness to times I’ve struggled and endured loss along the way.” Rock the Pigeon is happy to dive in and explore each track!
The guitars will immediately pull the listener in on the introductory track, “Where You’ll Find Me.” This song has a pop rock chorus with emo sounding verses. The lead guitars sit higher in the mix and provide their own hook lines throughout the song. This song has contagious verses and courses that will inspire the listener to listen to the next three songs, to hear the EP in its entirety. This song is about realizing and facing inner struggles. It’s about overcoming, and we can hear the sense of empowerment through Jared James’ amazing vocal delivery. Turmoil is what inspired this song to be, and the result is truly captivating.
“I liked the process of recording Where You’ll Find Me, I felt like I could feel and passion and emotion coming out of my voice while the producer found beautiful harmonies to still create a pleasant sound.” – Jared James
The sound gets a little bit more mellow for the song “San Francisco”, a beautiful ballad that Jared James wrote for his wife. This song captures the gratitude he has for his wife and the depth of their love. We get to hear glimpses of their love story, their origins, which started in San Francisco. This track features moody guitars that sound jazzy at times and grungy at times. Overall, this song has catchy hook lines throughout while the emotion is pouring through the speakers.
An acoustic guitar is introduced for “Sandcastles.” We also hear a tough electric guitar that demands the listeners’ attention. This song was written for Jared James’ son. At its heart, it is tender. He is dishing out his life lessons throughout the track, telling him to live life to the fullest and to not worry too much. Jared James is telling his son that no matter what life brings, he will always have his back and his love will always remain strong. He is always there to catch him. We could feel how big his love is for his son because of his emotional vocal delivery.
“Pastel” is the last track on this EP. This song has the record’s most intriguing vocal delivery and melody. It also contains totally rockin’ electric guitars that demand the listeners’ attention. Jared James wrote this song for his friend, who passed away at a young age. This song is about going through grief, feeling it, and overcoming it. It is a beautiful tribute to his late friend. Again, Jared James is showcasing a lot of love through his songwriting. This is my personal favorite song on the record because of the vocal melodies that are very catchy and out-of-the-box. This song surely stands out!
“Pastel is my favorite song on the album because of how personal it is, taking a dark subject (probably the darkest subject of death) and finding a way through it. Allowing yourself to heal and live life happily, as everyone deserves to.” – Jared James
