Brooklyn-based indie-pop artist ben silby returns with their latest single, ‘my bad,’ a captivating mix of heartfelt emotion and playful camp. Known for blending rebellious charm with a dash of extroverted introversion, silby crafts an infectious track that dances between cheeky sleaze and existential reflection.
Originally written in 2018 and inspired by a relationship that lingered too long due to a strong physical connection, ‘my bad’ has evolved over time, gaining a rock undertone that enhances its raw energy. The result is a powerful indie-pop anthem that pairs silby’s candid lyricism with analog-driven production, bringing warmth and authenticity to the track.
Tight guitar tones, washes of synth, tight drums and warming bass captures an edgy indie-bedroom-pop sound. Pleasingly fuzzy with light distortions warming up the sound pallet, the track carries a strikingly cool air which carries it through to an explosive final chorus and atmospheric close.
Ben explains: “my bad is about facing the hard truth of a relationship when it’s been staring you in the face. It’s about sex vs. love. It’s about taking ownership of our own mistakes and seeing the humor in situations that seem dire.”
