Jack Jones has had quite the career, most would be familiar with his work as the front-man of Trampolene and as the lead guitarist of Peter Doherty and the Puta Madres, and now he goes up a gear once more, releasing his debut, self-titled, solo album, unveiling a deeply reflective and personal side to his work.

The album commences with the captivating track ‘Make It So,’ which stands out right from the beginning. With its cinematic and atmospheric qualities, the song skillfully takes the listener on a journey, immersing them in its dark and brooding ambience. Electronic elements intertwine seamlessly with Jones’ evocative lyricism, creating a vivid and lasting impact that resonates with the audience.

Jack Jones uses his album as a catharsis, the second track, ‘Breathe’, provides a candid exploration of his battles with drug abuse and panic attacks, offering a personal and vulnerable perspective. Through this raw honesty, Jack encourages listeners, and himself, to embrace moments of calm and take a deep breath, creating an emotional connection with those who have encountered similar struggles.

Jones’ reflections on life-affirming experiences he wouldn’t have had if he had passed away at a young age infuse the fourth track, Peaches Out Of Reach, with a poignant contrast between the darkness of his current state and the joy and vitality of his past. The track’s complexity and emotional resonance are underscored by a blunt chorus that drives home its powerful message.

‘Dumb Phone’ is then another highlight, taking the emotional energy up a notch once more. It captivates through its raw essence, creating a dark, almost intoxicating atmosphere. Its poignant lyrics serve as a striking juxtaposition to the music, adding an extra layer of depth to its build-up. Together, the music and the lyrics weave a haunting narrative that poignantly reflects the pervasive sense of technological disillusionment in our modern era.

Jack Jones’ debut solo album is a triumph, offering a diverse range of musical styles that seamlessly blend to create a cohesive and emotionally resonant experience. The album delves deep into Jones’ innermost thoughts, taking listeners on a transformative journey that provides a cathartic release for both the artist and his audience.
