MegamasS is a Ukrainian metal band that has been making music together for the past two decades. They formed in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. Their music hits hard, combining elements of metalcore and nu-metal. But as hard as their music hits, MegamasS’s lyrics may hit even harder. They have just delivered their first English language record titled “Divide and Liberate!”, in collaboration with VIXFALL. The record features politically charged lyrics, serving as a strong plea for peace.
“It’s the first English-language album and a new audience, it’s intriguing. audience. We set a goal to reach a new sound level, I think we succeeded.”
– Oleksii (solo-guitarist), MegamasS
The EP features three standout tracks, each delivering distinct messages and key insights. The opening track, “BAD CREDIT,” offers a sharp critique of society’s misguided emphasis on materialism and the pursuit of financial success. The song argues that emotional well-being and balance should be given higher priority. The song is also about systemic injustice, living under a government system that favors the rich and digs a deeper hole for the less fortunate. This broken system can lead to even greater challenges, such as mental health struggles. Many people become lost in the system, fueling feelings of hopelessness.
The song hits heavy, switching between slower paced anthemic verses and heavier, busier sounding chorus sections. The song features incredible lead guitar riffs and distorted vocals, providing the record with more dynamic sounds and tones while giving it a sharper edge.
Next we hear “Her Name is War.” MegamasS lays their values on the table, with a double bass drum and low toned distorted guitars playing quick riffs. This song is about the reality of war, specifically the war in Ukraine and all the suffering and struggling Ukrainian’s have gone through in the past and recently. The struggle unfortunately continues. The band has dedicated the song to those who aren’t afraid to speak up and stand up for what they believe in. They also have dedicated it to anyone who is living in the epicenter of the conflict, anyone who is living life in a war zone. “Her Name is War” song features warm melodic moments, both in terms of vocal melodies and lead guitar sections. The changes between the sections are very smooth. This song truly takes the listener on a sonic journey.
These musical choices were intentional. The band explains that “The musical accompaniment enhances the emotional impact of the song, creating an atmosphere of tension and hopelessness, which is replaced by hope and belief in victory.” This song was released with a well-done music video that can be watched now. It just 6 days it has amassed over 10,000 views and 63 comments.
The EP concludes just as strongly as it started with the song “Until the end.” This is another song about war, and fighting for peace. The lyrics dive into the story of a group of soldiers who are fighting for their country, realizing that they are in an extremely vulnerable position and their lives are at great risk. They have dedicated themselves to fighting for freedom and are willing to sacrifice their lives for a peaceful future.
The song features rhythm guitar riffs and high frequency lead guitar sections played with incredible speed, showcasing the massive talent of the performer. The song also features a melodic chorus section, offering more dynamics to the song.
