Pete Yorn showcases the joys of meeting new instruments, discovering new tones, and laying down live tracks in his Cardboard Sessions debut. Pete Yorn stuns the audience with his breathtaking performance of “Real Good Love.” First we witness Yorn geeking out over several different instruments before finding the guitar he wants to play to a click track. We see him sample the Wurlitzer electric piano, several Fender guitars, a bass and even play the drums. Pete Yorn gives a dreamy performance where every note and every word contains so much emotion and soul. It’s impossible to not get lost in the music.
If you zoom in, you will notice that these instruments do not look exactly like standard instruments. That’s because they are all made of cardboard. The video footage showcases the recording and creation process, and even gives away the secrets of mic placements for cardboard instruments. Cardboard or not, this is an intimate look into the recording process that is very exciting to see. Pete Yorn is an acclaimed singer-songwriter with no shortage of real good songs. “Real Good Love” is another one of those songs, and this performance is definitely beyond magical.
