Homecoming Reflections: Kerin Carr’s Nostalgic New Single “Meersbrook Park”

The immensely talented singer-songwriter Kerin Carr is back with brand-new music, and it’s an absolute treat. Her latest single, “Meersbrook Park,” dropped on October 30th and brings a feel-good, nostalgic vibe that’s impossible to resist. The track is mellow and laid-back, featuring a beautiful blend of sonic textures with rich production and instrumentation. Carr’s guitars and vocals take center stage, weaving dreamy chords and delivering an emotional vocal performance that resonates deeply.

“Meersbrook Park” takes listeners on a reflective journey, capturing the bittersweet experience of revisiting one’s hometown after years away. In the opening lines, Carr sings, “I went back to my hometown, back to my old street. Been keeping a distance, for years and years,” blending memories of her past with the perspective she’s gained over time. The lyrics shift between stories of childhood adventures, like sledding with her friend Mary in the Winter, and the complexities of growing up, even referencing Mary’s mostly absent father in a way that adds depth to her reflections.

The song was recorded at Island Studios in Adelaide, South Australia, with a talented team of musicians. Joseph Cheek laid down the keyboards and bass, Jack Thomson played drums, and Kerin herself handled the guitars and all vocal work. “Meersbrook Park” is more than a song; it’s a heartfelt ode to homecoming and the passage of time, brought to life through Carr’s unique musical storytelling.

“The story of ‘Meersbrook Park’ is of someone returning to their hometown, which triggers wistful memories of a childhood friend, the ‘northern girl’ Mary, and how Mary’s life continued in the same way as her mother’s. The backdrop is Sheffield, a steel manufacturing town in England’s north, where I lived until I was almost 8 years old. Meersbrook Park was near my house.” – Kerin Carr
