The first track, ‘Look Me in the Eyes’, serves as a compelling introduction to the EP. Driven by a catchy guitar riff that recurs throughout, this song blends seamlessly with a groovy bass line and pulsing synths. The arrangement is particularly effective: it starts with brief vocals and the guitar riff, then transitions to a moment where the main vocals take center stage, supported only by atmospheric synths and backing vocals. This creates a focus on the emotional delivery before returning to the upbeat instrumentation. It’s a delightful rollercoaster of sound that sets the tone for the rest of the EP.
‘Questions’, the second track, takes a more introspective approach, exploring heartbreak and the complexities of emotions involved. It reflects on the pain of unintentionally hurting someone in a relationship and the subsequent hurt that follows. The instrumentation features acoustic guitar, steady drumming, and atmospheric synths, creating a soothing backdrop for heartfelt lyrics. In the second half, pulsing synths introduce a powerful build-up, offering a satisfying release reminiscent of letting go of negative emotions. This balance of emotional depth and engaging sound makes it a standout moment on the EP.
‘Don’t Stop’, fully embraces disco vibes with its array of synths and classic four-on-the-floor drumming. Lukasz enhances the track with vocal synthesizers, and strategically placed backing vocals elevate key moments, particularly during the choruses. The lyrics cleverly use repetition, making them catchy and encouraging listeners to dance and sing along. It’s the kind of song you’d blast in the car, headbanging with the wind in your hair, or dance to until you drop on the dance floor.
Next, ‘They Never Stop’ showcases Lukasz’s vocal capabilities, opening with his captivating voice supported by a balanced mix of bass, drums, and catchy melodies. This upbeat track is guaranteed to lift your spirits, exploring the thrill of intimacy and the addictive nature of love.
‘Little Boy’ exemplifies the disco promise with its catchy synth melodies layered over syncopated bass and steady drumming. This feel-good piece leaves you feeling confident and inspired, with melodies and lyrics that linger long after listening.
‘Darling’, similar in sound to ‘Don’t Stop’, features energetic synth layers and classic drumming. Lukasz’s vocals shine, supported by rich, reverberated harmonies. It’s nearly impossible not to dance to this track or at least tap your foot while working. “Darling” delves into heartbreak, telling a story of betrayal by someone you believed was “the one.”
‘To the Stars’ kicks off with an energetic bass line, accompanied by a synth section. It maintains the EP’s signature sound, blending layers of synths and four-on-the-floor drumming. The lyrics tell a positive story of falling in love and hoping for mutual feelings.
The final track, titled ‘Joyride’ is a groovy anthem that captures the essence of being a teenager today. It explores the desire for freedom amid parental expectations, highlighting the rebellion that often results. With its energetic trumpet, acoustic guitar, bass, and drums, this track creates a unique and memorable sound that perfectly complements the vocals.
Overall, ‘Joyride’ is a vibrant collection that not only honours disco’s legacy but also breathes new life into it, making it a must-listen for fans of the genre.
The contrast of the upbeat music and the poignant lyrics creates a powerful listening experience, making ‘Joyride’ a memorable EP that resonates with listeners.
