Dublin’s Somebody’s Child, led by Cian Godfrey, are back with the announcement of their highly anticipated sophomore album, When Youth Fades Away, set for release on March 28, 2025, via Frenchkiss Records. The announcement coincides with the release of the album’s lead single, ‘Time of My Life,’ which is now available on all streaming platforms.

Following the breakout success of their self-titled debut in 2023, the band has captivated audiences with their electrifying live performances. Their rise has been meteoric from opening for The War on Drugs, Bloc Party, and Kings of Leon at BST Hyde Park to headlining Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre and rocking the Main Stage at Electric Picnic.

‘Time of My Life’, heralds a new era for Somebody’s Child. Penned during the album’s final stages, encapsulates the bittersweet nostalgia of fleeting moments. The song blends the band’s signature indie rock sound with a more introspective and personal lyrical approach.

Of the single, Godfrey states:

It’s about the flashing of life before your eyes, ending in a feeling of resolve, leaving a legacy through songs and accepting fate. It was one of the most cathartic songs we’ve ever written. We’ve always wanted to write a 2-chord song, and this finally came out without force. Another one that was written with an idea; ‘let’s close out the album’. We were about to give up on writing that day, and we gave it one last go. Less than an hour later, we had a full song with more lyrics than we’ve ever had. I remember the feeling so well. I thought we’d been at it for 6 hours. Pure elation.

Recorded in the US with Grammy Award-winner Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Frightened Rabbit), When Youth Fades Away marks a significant artistic evolution for the band. Frontman Cian Godfrey describes the album as a poignant reflection on the inevitable passage of time and the changing perspectives that accompany it.

To accompany the single, Somebody’s Child also releases the music video for “Time of My Life,” co-directed by Apollo Films’ Adrian Lee and frontman Cian Godfrey. The video stars rising Dublin actress Caroline Menton, known for her roles in Channel 5’s All Creatures Great & Small and the 2023 indie horror film Oddity.

Somebody’s Child will finish 2024 with several dates across the UK and Europe, starting tomorrow at Liverpool’s Favourite Days Festival.
