After a summer of standout performances at iconic festivals like Glastonbury and Camp Bestival, The Barefoot Bandit is back with their highly anticipated new single, ‘Purple Paradise’, featuring Shniece. Known for their electrifying sound which blends element of reggae, ska, pop and dub, the band continue to showcase writing which is at once commercially viable and musically rich.
‘Purple Paradise’ joins the band’s growing discography as a follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album, ‘Hello Welcome’, which earned praise from music legends such as Craig Charles and David Rodigan. The new single brings escapism, drawing on lead singer Laurie’s vivid memories of the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand whilst delivering an infectious and rich sonic backdrop of synth, warm guitar tones, infectious brass and tight, crunchy offbeat reggae beats. Co-written with Charlene Soraia, the track pairs poetic lyrics with lush melodies crafted by drummer Jack, transporting audiences to a sonic world of tranquility, beauty, and love.
The single’s production involved multiple legendary studios, including Cornwall’s CUBE Studios for vocals and RAWCUS Studios for brass. Producer Dean Forrest ensured every element shone, while Shniece Mcmenamin’s ethereal voice layered harmonies that elevate the track’s warm, dreamy essence.
Speaking about the single, the band said: “Purple Paradise is a celebration of escapism, reminding us of the beauty in stepping away from everyday life to recover, reflect, and explore. It’s about finding those moments of peace with someone you love, and for us, it’s visually inspired by the stunning sunsets of Thailand’s Phi Phi Islands.”
The Barefoot Bandit is set to promote ‘Purple Paradise’ with a string of UK shows, kicking off with a single launch at Bristol’s Exchange on November 1st. This will be followed by a hometown performance at Exeter Phoenix on November 2nd and a gig in Plymouth on November 15th. The band has also teased upcoming remixes of the track.
