Hull’s genre-bending four-piece, Bdrmm, are back with ‘Infinity Peaking,’ the second single from their forthcoming third album, Microtonic, set to release on February 28th via Mogwai’s Rock Action label.

Infinity Peaking follows the acclaimed first single, ‘John on the Ceiling,’ currently featured on BBC 6 Music’s playlist. The track served as a blueprint for the musical direction of Microtonic, establishing the sonic foundation for the entire album.

‘Infinity Peaking’ showcases a synth-driven, euphoric atmosphere, further solidifying the band’s evolution on this new album. Supporting Daniel Avery and their experience at Field Day inspired Bdrmm to integrate more dance music elements into their already evolving sound.

Of the track, guitarist and vocalist Ryan Smith states,

Infinity Peaking perfectly encapsulates the band we were and the band we are now, that careful balance of shoegaze and electronica. It was written when I was in Malaga, and is the first track I wrote that wasn’t in some dingy bedroom. I feel like it captures the location that is reminiscent on The Durutti Column’s Hotel of the Lake, 1990.

It’s a track that is full of true joy (despite the lyrics) and it was a pleasure to work on in the studio. It’s one that we felt we could really get into the experimentation on, especially in the long-spanning mid-section. We’re always happiest when we’re sat on the floor of the studio surrounding the latest pedal we bought, each dying to have a pass on it.

Microtonic follows 2023’s I Don’t Know, which garnered critical acclaim. Consequence hailed it as ‘one of their most enticing successes yet,’ while Rolling Stone UK described it as “a chaotic, thrilling evolution.” The lead single, ‘It’s Just A Bit Of Blood,’ was also playlisted on BBC Radio 6 Music. Brooklyn Vegan declared I Don’t Know their Album Of The Week, praising the band for “not only avoiding the sophomore slump but delivering a second album that is miles better than their debut.”
