Dublin’s Somebody’s Child ushers in the new year with the release of ‘Last Night I Held Your Hand,’ the second single from their highly anticipated sophomore album, When Youth Fades Away. Following the success of their breakout single, ‘Time Of My Life,’ this new track delves deeper into the album’s core themes, namely the poignant weight of ageing.
Frontman Cian Godfrey’s introspective lyrics, “And I thought my youth was over / Now I’d die for you / Now I feel myself get older / But not when I’m with you,” capture the bittersweet reality of growing older while cherishing a profound connection. ‘Last Night I Held Your Hand’ seamlessly blends Somebody’s Child’s signature sound – soaring, euphoric choruses with a touch of Americana-inspired swagger.
Speaking on the new track Godfrey states:
“Last Night I Held Your Hand” was the first song that came out in the writing process for this album. We wrote it during an autumn-turned-winter trip to Western Wales, and it marked the beginning of a sound that would ultimately define the album. It carries a sense of innocence from earlier releases, yet breathes new life into the direction this album has taken.
Following the success of their 2023 self-titled debut, Somebody’s Child returns with When Youth Fades Away, marking a new chapter in their journey. Since their debut, the band has achieved significant milestones: supporting The War on Drugs, Bloc Party, and Kings of Leon at BST Hyde Park, headlining Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre, and playing Electric Picnic. They also sold out London’s Heaven and Sebright Arms, showcasing their growing popularity.
Somebody’s Child embarks on a busy touring schedule in 2025, starting with intimate in-store shows across the UK and culminating in an extensive German tour.
