Djo, the musical project of actor, producer, and BRIT Award-nominated songwriter Joe Keery (known for his roles in Stranger Things and Fargo), announces his highly anticipated new album, The Crux. Following the success of his 2022 album DECIDE, which featured the hit single “End of Beginning,” The Crux will be released on April 4th via AWAL. Today, Djo unveils the first single, “Basic Being Basic.”
Characterized by Oberheim OB-X8 synths and a distinctive falsetto refrain, “Basic Being Basic” wittily critiques the performative nature of modern life, particularly online. Keery is set to perform the single live for the first time on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 28th.
The Crux, co-produced with Adam Thein, marks a departure for Djo, trading bedroom synths for lush, late 60s/70s-inspired instrumentation. An album of loss, yearning, wit, and gratitude, it reflects Keery’s global travels and time spent at Electric Lady Studios in NYC. It showcases his songwriting and multi-instrumentalism across a diverse and ambitious soundscape.
Djo, fresh off a BRIT Award nomination for International Song of the Year, announces the “Back On You” Tour today, featuring Post Animal as support. Following his Laneway Festival appearances, the tour will traverse North America, the UK, and Europe, kicking off April 4th in Portland, OR and concluding in New York City on May 5th/6th. UK/EU dates begin June 1st in Dublin. Tickets go on sale January 31st, with artist pre-sale starting January 28th.
Djo’s 2024 was a breakout year, propelled by the global phenomenon “End of Beginning.” The track ascended to #1 on the Global Spotify chart and ultimately became the 6th most streamed song worldwide with a staggering 1.5 billion streams and over 60 billion TikTok views. Its impact was undeniable, charting in 41 countries and achieving multiple Platinum and Gold certifications across 17 territories. “End of Beginning” achieved peak positions of #4 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart and #11 on the Billboard Hot 100, while also cracking the top 10 at Alternative Radio and reaching #12 on the Top 40 chart. In the UK, it received the coveted A-list placement on BBC Radio 1.
