Evan Greer & Ryan Cassata Unleash Punk Anthem “Protect Trans Kids” on Trans Day of Visibility
In a bold move fitting for the urgency of the times, trans indie/punk artists Evan Greer (Get Better Records) and Ryan Cassata (Kill Rock Stars) are releasing their latest single, Protect Trans Kids (WTFIWWY), on March 31st—Trans Day of Visibility. The song is a defiant punk rallying cry against the escalating attacks on transgender youth, offering a cathartic, rage-fueled response to bigots and lawmakers who seek to strip away their rights.
The track is fast, furious, and unapologetically direct. Over an explosive punk backdrop, Greer and Cassata chant a no-holds-barred message: “leave them alone, leave them alone, what the f— is wrong with you? … let em read books, let em have fun, let em take a f—ing piss without you all up in their f—ing business.” The song channels the spirit of classic punk rebellion, complete with heavy guitars and Riot Grrrl influences, making it a perfect anthem for trans youth seeking an outlet for their frustration and resistance.
This is the second release from Greer this year. In November, she teamed up with Victoria Ruiz (Downtown Boys) for Pinkwashing, a track that raised funds for the Palestine Youth Movement. Greer, a longtime activist, also made waves when she confronted transphobic Congresswoman Nancy Mace at a tech conference in Washington, DC.
The timing of Protect Trans Kids is critical. With a record-breaking number of anti-trans bills being introduced across the United States—ranging from bans on gender-affirming care to oppressive state laws targeting trans youth—the song arrives as both a call to action and an emotional release.
Musically, Protect Trans Kids is a visceral punk explosion, complete with Riot Grrrl-inspired aggression and striking vocal deliveries from both Cassata and Greer. The song’s driving force is not just its raw sound, but its urgent message—a defiant demand for trans kids to be left alone.
As attacks on the trans community mount, songs like Protect Trans Kids serve as both resistance and refuge. Whether blasted through speakers at a protest or screamed into the void, this track is a much-needed battle cry for those fighting for a future where trans youth can live without fear.
For fans of punk with a purpose, this is one release you won’t want to miss.
