London-based band Y have released their latest single, “Ladies Who,” on April 1st, preceding their debut EP, “Y,” scheduled for release on April 4th. The single, distributed through Hideous Mink Records and SO Recordings, marks the third track released from the upcoming EP.

Formed by Adam Brennan and Sophie Coppin during a period of isolation, Y draws on the diverse musical backgrounds of its members, who have prior involvement with bands such as Fat White Family, Meatraffle, and Pregoblin. The band’s sound is characterized by a genre-bending approach, with descriptions ranging from “wonk rock” to “Egyptian wedding music.”

Of the track, the band state,

“‘Ladies Who’ approaches the topic of exploitation in the media under the joyful guise of a wonky pop song. Although the song’s lyrics are the story of a female killer, the music presents an almost cabaret-like dictation of events, highlighting the fantastical and absurd exaggeration of true events in journalism in order to gain more traction. ‘Ladies who’ poses the question, ‘ladies who’- what?, what would make you listen?”.
