High Volume & Vibes: Partimama Drops Pop Bop ‘Come on Get on the Dancefloor’

We’ve had an amazing month with some spectacular alt-rock anthems, and my playlist and I have loved every new find. Although I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for alternative rock, I need something that gets me hyped up for the liveliness and vibrancy that I love about summer’s nightlife. I ask, and she delivers: when Melbourne-based pop artist Partimama, AKA Nesina Viola, dropped her single ‘Come on Get on the Dancefloor’ back in 2023, she was answering a prayer that I hadn’t even made yet.

Polished by the incredibly versatile pianist and producer Max Kourilov, ‘Come on Get on the Dancefloor’ celebrates the warm, colourful energy of the 80s dance scene, complete with a groove-crammed melody, glittering party-ready timbres, and infectious synths. I don’t know about you, but I don’t need any more convincing—let’s dive straight in!

Come on Get on the Dancefloor

Diamond-bright and full of life, the track starts with the glints and glimmers of some incredibly inviting electronic beats. The bubblegum-burst beats infuse the track’s texture with a youthful bounciness that could convince even the most lethargic person to jump out of their seat and start grooving. As you can imagine, the track’s intro is brimming with heart-quicking tempos and in-your-face dynamics, which is exactly want from a song that’s all about feel-good, hair-down vivacity.

Making an explosive entrance, Partimama’s breezy Kylie-esque vocals kick the track into the next gear. The contrast between her initial airy timbre and that punchy synth bass really fuels the catchiness of the melody, and for that reason, it’s not surprising that it didn’t take long for this track to get stuck in my head. What’s more, through the combination of the instrumentals and Partimama’s vocals, you experience an intriguing rhythm that refreshes contagious retro hooks all while exuding the watertight polish of modern clubbing bops.

Something else that intrigued me about this track was the way that Partimama’s vocals quickly evolved. As I mentioned, her voice has a soft-edged airiness to it during the intro, but as the track settles into its groove, it transforms into this rich blend of commanding smoke and disco-fun confidence. In other words, Partimama’s signature theatrical flair is definitely not hiding itself away in ‘Come on Get on the Dancefloor.’

Focusing on the lyrics, they are everything you might expect from a song heavily inspired by the 80s dance scene—simple and carefree. There is one lyric, however, that I particularly love: ‘Just the therapy to chase your blues away.’ This singular line sums up Partimama perfectly; she’s a beacon of empowerment and jolliness, and her music simply will not allow you to feel anything but high-spirited.

Throughout the entirety of the song, the upbeat energy does not waver for even a second. In fact, the track’s colour only gets more intricate with the emergence of the cascading pulses of the striking synths. By the time the single ends, complete with an echoey fade-out that promises the party will live on, you are more than ready to embrace the night’s funky thrills!

Partimama

After listening to ‘Come on Get on the Dancefloor,’ I’m sure it’s not shocking at all to learn that Partimama’s musical career has been just as lustrous as her music. From making an appearance on Australia’s Got Talent to shining as a solo cabaret/variety act, Partimama’s love for all things entertainment is what makes her an artist you just want to know more about.

Most notably, through her partnership with Entertainment Dance Creations, Partimama was able to bring her dazzling cabaret act, Partimama & The Babes, to life. Combining her love of dancing, singing, and acting with her comedienne wit, turbocharged charisma, and vivid costumes, Partimama has solidified herself as one of the most versatile, multi-talented performers that I’ve ever discovered.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, Partimama also has her own cover band, in which she effortlessly shapes her flair to the classic tunes of the past seventy years! These covers, in addition to a handful of original singles from the past three years, do an amazing job of showing you what it looks like when an artist has just as much passion for their craft as they have talent.

‘Come on Get on the Dancefloor’ is available to listen to across all major streaming platforms! While you’re perusing Partimama’s discography, make sure to give some love to her latest, immeasurably catchy single, ‘Nothing Better Than This.’

Till next time!
