New Queer Music to Get Into for Pride Month: Tori Leppert, Starchild, Kristen Ford, Avenida Corrientes

TORI LEPPERT – APPLE PIE: Tori Leppert is making waves with her latest country smash “Apple Pie” It’s a bold, heartfelt anthem that’s as sharp as it is sweet. Inspired by her uncanny resemblance to her dad, Tori delivers a witty, high-energy tribute packed with clever lyrics and undeniable charm. From the punchy line “I’ve got the mouth of a sailor” to the heartfelt “A daughter’s like a father, and I know I pass the test,” Tori captures the spirit of a father-daughter bond with humor, grit, and heart. The track’s irresistible hooks and killer guitar work, complete with distorted country riffs that kick like a mule, make it a standout. Add in top-tier production, and you’ve got the perfect soundtrack for Father’s Day or any day you want to crank up something that is filled with family love.

STARCHILD – JESUS IS TOTALLY QUEER: White Jesus doesn’t exist and never has. Jesus doesn’t belong to the Catholic Church, the pope, or any white Christian nationalist movement. In his latest track, Starchild shares his own vision of Christ, queer not just in sexuality, but in action, intention, and spirit. The song leans into an experimental sound, with raw, organic instrumentation and vocals that feel deeply lived-in. Lines like “It was queer when he washed his disciples’ feet” and “Sorry to bust your bubble, but Jesus is totally queer. Jesus is totally strange” hit like gospel for the misfits. Queering religion and spirituality is a powerful way to break it free from the gatekeeping of organized religion and make space for more people to access the teachings of Christ. Personally, I’ve always seen Jesus as an activist. Reclaiming him through a queer lens feels essential in taking Christianity back from the bigots and powers that be.

“When I learned that the white Jesus who’s on the walls of most white evangelical churches in the South was probably derived from a painting Michelangelo made of his boyfriend, I knew that I had to write a song about Jesus being totally queer. Two thousand years of mostly closeted queer Christian musicians, poets, and painters have made all sorts of homoerotic art about Jesus. Just look at the paintings of the monks drinking from his side-vulva. Jesus is the queerest version of God that has ever walked this earth and it’s time to be honest about that.” – Starchild

KRISTEN FORD – WHITE MAN’S DREAM (REMIX) -Kristen Ford is back and louder than ever, unleashing a rock n’ roll anthem that hits hard and doesn’t hold back. Co-written and produced with the legendary Ani DiFranco, this track kicks off with a gritty, distorted guitar riff that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. Her vocals are raw, fierce, and unapologetic, like a punch straight to the gut of bigots, racists, and homophobes everywhere. “Sometimes I wish I was a boy, so I could be the all American they wanted,” she belts, cutting straight to the bone. Kristen confronts the harsh reality of being a biracial woman in an industry built for white men, refusing to stay silent about the inequity. She is taking the power back. This song isn’t just empowering, it’s a battle cry. And with more music on the way, Kristen Ford is just getting started. Stay tuned for more!

“Having spent 8 years in Nashville, seeing songs about boats and trucks and pretty girls get into heavy rotation when songs that I loved and moved me and meant something were ignored. A couple of decades as a touring artist being told “oh your hair is too short or you should dress this way or you should go on the voice or you should do this or do that, you’re too this, you’re too that”. I hit a wall and wrote all my grievances into this song.

We are truly living in a white man’s dream, this may be the death rattle of the patriarchy but they are destroying families and the environment, dividing with hatred and lies and nazi salutes. It’s horrifying this nightmare, this administration. However, it’s a dream and we can wake up. I’m ready. Are you?” – Kristen Ford

AVENIDA CORRIENTES – GOROM: Avenida Corrientes returns with a powerful new track, “Gorom,” a raw and courageous account of fleeing Uganda, where being LGBTQ is illegal and punishable by life in prison. In Uganda, queer people face not only brutal violence and persecution, but also the threat of starvation and systemic neglect. The song opens with the haunting line: “I live in refuge camp.” The music pulses with an upbeat rhythm, but the lyrics tell a much heavier truth, one that grips the heart and refuses to let go. “I have to escape from Uganda just because the way that I love.” Sung in English, Spanish, and Swahili, “Gorom” carries a message that transcends borders. Every stream and sale of the song will directly support refugees. This isn’t just music, it’s a movement.

“A few weeks ago, I met Eric and Hardem, two gay men from Uganda, on social media. In that country, just being gay can get you a life sentence or even the death penalty. They fled until they reached the Gorom refugee camp in South Sudan, one of the poorest countries in Africa. There, they live with the LGBTIQ+ community, along with thousands of other refugees.
Without help from NGOs, they lack everything, even food. In a nearby war zone and a food crisis, they barely have a small plate of cereal a day.
They hope that one day they can be welcomed in Sweden or Canada, but until that day comes, they need urgent help. I’ve sent them small amounts of money, but I thought I could do something more.I composed a song in English and Swahili, combining electronic rhythms with African music and speaking about the difficult and unjust situation they live in.”
