Bristol-based indie-dreampop quartet Chasing Kites have returned with their latest single ‘Luna’ — a shimmering, cinematic track that delicately weaves emotion and atmosphere into a rich, shoegaze and dream-pop influenced sonic tapestry.
Produced by Sam Winfield at Studio 91 (whose credits include Bring Me The Horizon and Amber Run), ‘Luna’ is a masterclass in dynamic tension and dreamlike immersion. The track opens with ethereal electronics and shoegaze-drenched guitar textures, grounded by tight basslines and crisp, propulsive drums. At the centre of it all, Matt Denelly’s heartfelt vocals provide a compelling narrative anchor, allowing the soundscape to swirl and expand without losing focus.
As the verses drift through celestial tones and introspective energy, the chorus arrives like a revelation — bold and anthemic, pulling the listener into a more grounded indie rock sensibility. It’s a deft blend of the airy and the urgent, one that feels both intimate and expansive.
Lyrically, ‘Luna’ explores a surreal love story set against the backdrop of an apocalypse. Speaking about the inspiration, Denelly explains:
“‘Luna’ is the retelling of a dream I had about the end of the world. Although this apocalyptic scenario is inevitably quite crucial, the track is more centred around the protagonist falling in love, overshadowing everything else that is going on. It’s a love letter to the all-consuming power of infatuation.”
Since forming in 2021, Chasing Kites have quickly built a name for themselves with emotionally charged performances and genre-blending songwriting. Their sold-out live shows across the UK, along with support from tastemakers including Earmilk, Atwood Magazine, Notion, BBC Bristol, and RTE, have marked them as rising stars in the indie landscape.
Having opened for the likes of The Lottery Winners, King No-One, and Dutch Criminal Record — and named twice as BBC’s ‘Big New Sound’, the band has drawn comparisons to acts including The 1975, Fontaines D.C., and Catfish and the Bottlemen.
