Black Country, New Road are closing out their massive 2025 with a “thank you” to fans in the form of a rare live cover. Following the success of their latest album, Forever Howlong, the band has released a soaring rendition of Big Star’s 1972 classic, “The Ballad of El Goodo.”
The recording was captured during the group’s October 19th performance at the Sentrum Scene in Oslo, showcasing their signature folk-rock and chamber-pop sensibilities applied to the power-pop masterpiece. In a message shared with followers, the band expressed their gratitude for the year’s success:
“To say thank you, we are sending a special live recording of The Ballad of El Goodo out to those of you subscribed to our mailing list. It has been so brilliant for all of us.”
Fans can secure a free WAV file of the track by signing up for the band’s promotional mailing list via the link in their social media bios. The release serves as a bridge to a busy 2026, which will see the group head to Australia and New Zealand in February for the first leg of their next world tour.
