The dog is the main character, as always. It’s also about competing for love over your partner’s dog. “Your dog, he loves you, even more than I do. Your dog, he loves me, more than you will.” I mean, I’ve definitely had partners complain about this phenomenon and honestly, a dog’s love is the most powerful. “Maybe you can learn from him, how to love me…ow, it hurts when you don’t love me.” The comparison is absolutely derailing him…enough to write this incredible song.
