Halifax-based indie specialist Ellur continues her ascent with the release of ‘Dream Of Mine’, a dreamy, Americana-tinged single that reveals another facet of her increasingly distinctive sound. Premiered on BBC 6 Music by Steve Lamacq last night, the track arrives as the final taste of her highly anticipated debut LP At Home In My Mind, set for release on February 6th via Dance To The Radio.
Written alongside Jack Leonard (UNKLE), ‘Dream Of Mine’ blends spacious rock textures with Ellur’s trademark emotional clarity, drawing influence from artists such as The War on Drugs, The 1975, The Cure and CMAT. The single captures the internal conflict at the heart of the album: ambition, insecurity, and the societal expectations placed on young women navigating creative lives.
‘Dream of Mine’ was written a very long time ago about feeling selfish for wanting to pursue a career that requires a lot of sacrifices. I was feeling insecure and worried my long-term partner would decide that being with a musician would be too much for them. I’m very much interested in the conflict of being a woman and the fact my first priority is not to settle down, get married and provide emotionally for a family. It’s an expectation so woven into society and I find it interesting that you don’t really hear male rock stars apologising for wanting success.
Set for release on February 6th, At Home In My Mind is a genre-spanning portrait of Ellur’s inner world, shaped by 90s indie rock, glitch-pop and alt-folk influences. With growing BBC support, widespread press acclaim and multiple sold-out UK dates already under her belt, Ellur continues to build momentum as one of the UK’s most promising emerging voices.
