Top Pigeon Picks from 2025: Nick Rifken “Time” & “Candle”

Being a millennial, I’m a big fan of 90s rock, and anything that sounds like it comes from that era. Last year, Nick Rifken released a song that seamlessly blends into the pop rock hits of the 1990s. If you’re a fan of Sugar Ray, Bloodhound Gang, Goo Goo Dolls, or any similar artists, you are sure to love Nick Rifken’s single, “Time.” The song also has some great guitar playing, it’s mostly acoustic driven, but there’s an electric guitar that provides some additional grit to the song. The pre-chorus feels like it slows down for a moment before going into a high energy and catchy chorus. I love the push and pull feeling that this section creates. The song completes with a rock n’ roll guitar solo. “It’s not a race, I’m into walking. Just wanna slow down, so gimme half-time.” Enjoy the track on Spotify now:

Nick Rifken ended the year in a slightly different style. “Candle” is less lo-fi sounding because the acoustic guitar sounds really bright on this track. The beat is energetic and fun, and it’s perfectly followed by the acoustic guitar riff which serves as the song’s main hook. The song has a mysterious feel to it, maybe because it lands in a minor key. The vocals cut across as organic and real, relatable for the listeners’ ear. Emotion can definitely be heard and felt, which makes this song something truly special. “Luck is a fool’s game.” Enjoy the track on Spotify now:
