cedar – If I Knew

cedar are an alt-rock, indie band from Gibraltar. ‘If I Knew’ is their 12th release, adding to their strong catalogue. The band have been crafting their sound since 2022. ‘If I Knew’ adopts a direct approach, tackling key issues head-on.

The timid opening tickles the brain. A soft guitar appears from the darkness to coddle the listener. The song is electric in its conception.

The lyrics are punchy and undeniably catchy. Words chosen are gut-wrenchingly honest. cedar captures the essence of feeling uneasy and not knowing why. There is a search to know what you don’t know about yourself. Fading guitars conclude the chorus and allow time for recovery.

The song dances between different rhythms and melodies. They create a sound adjacent to the message sent. There is a sense of discomfort about not knowing ourselves fully that we all share. cedar captures this perfectly.

The band consists of Patrick Murphy (vocals), Harry Meenagh (lead guitar), Tom Meenagh (rhythm/lead guitar), Daniel Ghio (bass), and Daryl Pallas (drums). The band draws influence from a plethora of genres and scenes. This array of musical knowledge and interest flows through their music. Post production was done by Pieter Rietkerk of Chapel Studios.

cedar have big plans to come to mainland UK soon, and we should await their arrival with gleeful anticipation. Their catalogue, topped by their new single ‘If I Knew’, is a testament to their originality and potential.

‘cedar’s newest track ‘If I Knew’ is a poetic insight into the self and warrants the highest praise both musically and spiritually.’
