Dreamwave’s Moon Dogs / Drifter: A Multi-Format Psych Epic

A double EP, an LP, an album—call it what you will, but Moon Dogs // Drifter is a release not to be missed. Fuzz-laden guitars, haunting synths, and harmonies to match, Dreamwave are set to drop this kaleidoscopic mash-up of two EPs, with the latest tracks forming the second half: Drifter. It is reverberating psychedelic indie for the masses, a record designed to pull the underground out into the light for all to see, hear, and dance to.

Originally hailing from Brighton, the five-piece have since set up shop in Bristol, and they are clearly thriving in the city’s fertile psych scene. If there was ever a collection of music for the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music to get excited about, this is it. It’s a sound tailor-made for the airwaves, especially on tracks like the gonzo-garage blast of “Moon Buggy” and the cinematic “Murmurs On The Dunes.” Subtle but driven, tight yet fluid, Dreamwave blend their technicolour sound with an effortless throb of glam rock. Those with a soft spot for the Isle of Wight’s own The Bees will find Dreamwave in good company, sharing that same lo-fi hum, warm fuzz, and a sun-drenched, surf-like stance.

Mood Dogs // Drifter is a release fit for a summer festival. Be it in the baking heat or the downpours and mudslides. Dreamwave will surely have an audience who will lap up the offering with arms outstretched.
