MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES’ “Persona Non Grata” Sounds Like the Soundtrack to Something Beautiful and Terrifying

Drawing inspiration from the detective and film noir movies of the 40s and 50s, MAN OF A THOUSAND FACES have carved out a sound that feels like it was pulled straight from a dimly lit back alley and electrified for the modern age. Piano and horns weave together with heavily distorted electric guitars in a combination that feels cinematic and unsettling and completely riveting, like the score to a horror film that hasn’t been made yet but absolutely needs to be. The tension builds slowly and deliberately, the horns and piano riff circling each other with a quiet menace, until just past the one minute mark everything explodes into something massive and overwhelming before pulling back just as dramatically, leaving you breathless. It is the kind of dynamic shift that reminds you what music is capable of when someone is genuinely swinging for something bold and completely their own. “Persona Non Grata” is unique, powerful, and unlike almost anything else out there right now and this EP is essential listening.
