If you’ve ever lost a dog, this song by Myles Bullen & Factor Chandelier will break you open

The Beat Box Poet, Myles Bullen just released a new song today called “Want to go for a ride?”, a collab track with producer Factor Chandelier, and it feels like someone cracked their chest open and handed us the pieces.

This song is for Finn. Their dog. Their family. And you can tell this is some deep grief. The kind that sneaks up on you while you’re standing in the kitchen. The kind that lives in empty bowls and quiet rooms where you once heard barking.

Myles gets super real on this track, just like they do in all their music. They don’t clean it up. They don’t distance themselves from the pain. They sit right inside it and invite us in with their rhythmic vocal delivery and poetic lyrics. Grief and gratitude tangled together are the main emotions coming through Myles’ track. Really, it’s all an expression of a deep, unconditional love. The type of love that dogs give us, and we give them. To love this deeply is a gift.

I’ve lost animals before. More than one. And losing a dog is a special kind of heartbreak that people love to minimize. The people around you might not get it, this is a song that could help them understand why your grief hits so hard, why it’s effecting your every move in life going forward. This song clearly says: they mattered so deeply to me. This love was profound, this love was real, and I will miss my best friend.

Myles raps about saying goodbye for good. About all the ways Finn showed up for them throughout their years together. About how this dog helped them survive things, grow, keep moving forward. About how love doesn’t disappear just because someone does. The love will last forever.

“Now I found your empty bowl and your empty bed,
you’ll never come home, you’ll never leave my head.
I’ll feel better for a while, and then awful again.”

“Want to go for a ride?” feels like a memory. Like motion. Like holding onto something that’s gone and still somehow everywhere. It feels like talking to your dog out loud even though you know they can’t answer, because you still need to say it. Myles and Finn go on one last ride together, but this one lasts forever. This song lasts forever.

This song isn’t just sad. It’s loving. It’s honest. It’s devastating in a way that feels necessary. If you’ve ever loved an animal like family, this one is going to crawl under your skin and live there for a while. I hope that you will find much comfort in it, like I did.

Thank you, Myles, for not pretending grief is tidy. Thank you for loving Finn this loudly.
