K A T R I N A unveils her debut EP GOODGrief, a compelling exploration of heartbreak told through a deeply personal lens.

Hailing from Asheville, K A T R I N A may be introducing her first official EP, but she is far from inexperienced. Over the past decade and a half, she has performed at hundreds of regional events across New England and Western North Carolina. Now fronting her own original project alongside a tight, groove-driven band, she steps confidently into a new chapter of her career.

Since releasing her first singles K A T R I N A has accumulated over 30,000 streams in just three months. Tracks like All I Want(ED) and Different Life quickly gained traction, paving the way for the arrival of GOODGrief.

GOODGrief is constructed as a front-to-back narrative inspired by the five stages of grief, applied to modern heartbreak. The EP moves from denial and anger through bargaining and depression, ultimately reaching acceptance. Each stage is reflected not only in the lyrics but also in the production choices, making this an engaging listen from start to finish.

The opening track, LOML, immediately draws attention with its layered and colourful production. Echoed vocals, reverb-drenched textures, finger-snap beats, and a rich mix of sonic elements intertwine with K A T R I N A’s emotionally charged delivery. The result is striking to say the least, contrasting between the vulnerability of the lyrics and the lush, absorbing arrangement.

In a sharp transition from denial to anger, BETCHUTHINKYOURESPECIAL shifts the tone dramatically. Abrasive guitars take centre stage, and the energy intensifies as K A T R I N A leans into a more confrontational vocal performance. The track lands like an emotional gut punch, raw and unapologetic.

Entering the bargaining stage, What I Had 2 introduces a dreamier atmosphere. Compared to the previous tracks, this song feels more restrained and reflective, allowing the introspective songwriting to breathe. Its softer textures accentuate the sense of longing embedded in the lyrics.

With Different Life, the EP reaches one of its most vulnerable moments. The minimalist production places K A T R I N A’s emotive vocals front and centre, amplifying the heartbreak at the core of the song. The stripped-back arrangement proves that sometimes less truly is more.

Closing the EP’s main arc, Breathe ends GOODGrief on an uplifting note. A lively brass section and an irresistible chorus shift the emotional atmosphere toward acceptance, offering a melody that feels both liberating and dance-ready. It’s a triumphant conclusion that shows another dimension of K A T R I N A’s artistry.

As an added surprise, the EP also includes a reimagined version of the earlier track, “Different Life (Afterglow).” Instead of the sombre tone of the original, this rendition transforms the song into a dance anthem, closing the project with an energetic twist that feels wholesome and memorable.

“With GOODGrief, K A T R I N A delivers a thoughtfully constructed EP that balances narrative depth with stylistic variety. The project invites multiple listens, revealing new layers with each spin.”

Looking ahead to 2026, K A T R I N A has ambitious plans, including two additional EPs, a full-length album, and a series of live dates yet to be announced. If you’re drawn to heartbreak anthems you can both feel and move to, GOODGrief is a strong introduction to what K A T R I N A has to offer.
