After a string of well-received singles, Plastic Rhino return with Dark Horizon, an intense and emotionally charged anthem that reinforces the band’s place in today’s alternative rock scene.

Plastic Rhino – Dark Horizon

The story of Plastic Rhino began when co-founder Jack Glazer posted an ad looking for a vocalist. That call was answered by Atara, who would soon become the unmistakable voice of the project.

The duo quickly developed a creative partnership, and in 2014, they released their debut EP with LA producer Tom Chandler. Drawing inspiration from ‘90s alt-rock in the vein of Garbage, No Doubt, and Veruca Salt, the band crafted a guitar-driven sound that earned both local and national attention from music outlets.

In 2015, Plastic Rhino headed back into the studio to record their debut album, Recondition. This time, they embraced a heavier direction, pushing Atara’s vocal range further and adding more bite to their instrumentation. Shortly after, however, the band went on hiatus. Jack explored other musical ventures, while Atara pursued solo work.

Five years later, during the pandemic lockdown, Plastic Rhino found themselves with unexpected time to reflect and create. What started as scattered ideas quickly evolved into 15 new songs. With Tom Chandler once again on board, the band shaped those ideas into their sophomore LP, Terminus, their darkest and most introspective record to date, inspired by the uncertainty and emotional toll of 2020.

The album marked a turning point. Their track King landed on Spotify’s All New Rock editorial playlist, while its music video received recognition at film festivals. Subsequent singles such as Another Try, I Give You Up, and Empath secured placements on Apple’s editorial rock playlists, expanding the band’s reach even further.

Momentum continued with the tracks I Rise, TAKEITALL, and Hole In The Sky. Now, Plastic Rhino return with Dark Horizon, a gripping composition that explores the search for inner peace while confronting the darkness and depression that can exist within us all.

Instrumentally, Dark Horizon surges ahead with eerie synth layers and gritty, distorted riffs that set the stage for Atara’s standout vocal performance. She moves seamlessly from smooth, melodic lines to forceful delivery and raw, soaring screams, bringing intensity to every section. The expansive, hook-driven chorus further showcases the range of Plastic Rhino, resulting in a bold, alt-rock anthem built for mainstream rock fans.

Dark Horizon stands as a hard-hitting alt-rock anthem with a sharp edge, engaging lyricism, and a performance that delivers intensity to the core.

With an expanding list of achievements and plenty of creative drive ahead of them, Plastic Rhino are establishing themselves as a name worth watching in the alternative rock landscape. If anything, work like this proves that their horizon feels anything but dark.
