Prepare for Lift Off: Young Gstar’s SPACE TOURIST Is a Concept Album Worth the Trip

Maryland born, London and US based artist Young Gstar, also known as The TrippyHippie, has entered a new era. SPACE TOURIST is a ten track concept album that does exactly what its title promises, taking the listener on a fully realized journey through space, consciousness, and self, and it is one of the more ambitious and rewarding listens to cross our desk this year. Rock the Pigeon is proud to highlight a few of our favorite moments from the record.

The album announces itself immediately. Opening track “On The Moon” is a bass heavy trap song loaded with hi hats and audio effects that sounds like a vortex opening up beneath your feet. The melodies are instantly captivating, the kind you find yourself mouthing before you even realize it, and when Young Gstar’s lead vocal arrives he spits rhythmically over the track and amps the energy up even further. It is a confident, disorienting, thrilling way to begin.

From there the album establishes its concept with purpose. “BLZRS Galactic Transmission” functions as a transmission from the captain himself, setting the coordinates and letting the listener know exactly where they are headed. “Prepare for lift off,” he announces, promising a party pack to “keep your vibes high and your third eye wide open.” Young Gstar is not just an artist on this record, he is a guide, and you are in good hands. The conceptual thread deepens on “!S!GNAL LOST!,” another announcement track that takes a more introspective turn, diving into mental health and shadow selves with the kind of honesty that can only come from someone who has done real inner work. “Sanity levels…not found…” It is a striking moment on the album, and one of its most meaningful.

The journey moves through moods and textures with ease. “SPACE STORY” offers a smooth beat you can get completely lost in, autotuned vocals giving the impression of an extraterrestrial presence aboard the ship, pulling you deeper into the world Young Gstar has built. “Co-Pilot” is one of the album’s catchiest moments, an invitation to a woman he wants beside him on the journey, because this trip is better shared. “When we locked eyes I swear the universe aligned” is the kind of line that earns its place. “TomoRRow” leans into R&B territory without softening the bass one bit, vocals drenched in reverb and echo and autotune creating something genuinely trippy and emotionally resonant. “Anywhere you go, I’ll be sure to follow.” And “Glitchgang” closes things out with low toned vocals and heavy echo effects that amplify the spacey atmosphere to its peak, with lines like “My spaceship is on a stairway to heaven” and “Got cash in my spacesuit” landing with a grin and a genuine sense of cool.

SPACE TOURIST is the work of an artist who has grown into his vision and trusted it completely. Young Gstar has built a world here, and it is well worth the visit.
