Swedish punks Alpha Pet arrive with “Wow” and the title turns out to be exactly the right word for it. Distorted guitars rip through the speakers from the jump, the energy is immediate and contagious, and the vocals carry the kind of attitude that cannot be taught or faked. This is high octane, old school punk that wears its influences proudly, the spirit of The Dead Kennedys, The Clash, and 999 running through every second of it, while Alpha Pet sound completely and thrillingly like themselves. This is a song built for car speakers at full volume, windows down, the kind of track where you sink into the vibe and stop being a person with responsibilities for nearly 4 glorious minutes. “Wow” is the sound of a band who know exactly what they are and have zero interest in being anything else. Their self titled debut EP is due out on March 27, and if this is the opening statement, the rest of it cannot come soon enough.
