The Utopiates – Let’s Make This Happen

The Utopiates enjoyed a highly successful 2025, earning support from BBC Radio 6 and Radio X, along with spot plays from Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy for every single they released. That momentum now leads to the arrival of their second studio album, the ten-track record Let’s Make This Happen.

Opening the record is Lost My Groove, which ironically wastes no time delivering one of the album’s most infectious moments. The track leans into a catchy rhythm and upbeat groove that immediately sets the tone. Neighbourhood follows with a similar hook-driven approach, though this time the band pushes the tempo further, creating a livelier and more urgent feel.

A key strength throughout the album is how The Utopiates keep the music engaging without losing the momentum introduced early on. Montezuma stands out thanks to its irresistible bass line and polished production, paired with a confident performance that gives the track a bright and inviting character.

Evanescent then shifts things slightly as vocalist Dan introduces spoken-word passages that lead into a memorable chorus. It’s a moment that adds contrast while maintaining the album’s forward drive. The band’s versatility also comes through on Insomnia, where shimmering synths meet swirling guitar textures, creating a slightly surreal atmosphere that keeps you on your toes.

The album’s lead single, The Path, continues the synth-led approach. Its retro new-wave influence supports a message of perseverance amid adversity, delivered through an uplifting arrangement that fits neatly within the record’s sonic palette.

Lungs provides one of the album’s most reflective moments. Instead of leaning into the indie dance energy heard earlier, the track slows and adopts a more contemplative tone, supported by layered backing vocals that further amplify the emotional impact of the composition.

The self-titled track, Let’s Make This Happen, maintains that calmer atmosphere with soft piano lines and restrained instrumentation. The result is a thoughtful piece that hints at renewal and change, while the return of spoken-word sections near the end adds an interesting finishing touch.

Closing on a high note, I Don’t Know What To Say, offers another glimpse of the band’s eclectic side, presenting a more sultry and mature atmosphere. Borderline confessional in tone, its slow-burn performance feels relaxed without ever turning dull, bringing this rock-solid aural venture to a fitting close.

“Across its ten tracks, Let’s Make This Happen presents The Utopiates as a band comfortable exploring different ideas while maintaining a cohesive sound. The album moves between energetic indie rock, synth-driven passages, and quieter reflective moments, showing a group that understands how to shape a full-length listening experience.”

To mark the release of Let’s Make This Happen, The Utopiates have scheduled two headline shows in their key music hubs of Leeds and London. If you get the chance, be sure to attend and show your support:
