Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, and we couldn’t let it pass without shouting out this gem: “St. Patrick’s Day” by Self Run Will. Incredibly, this old-school punk track sat in the vault for 20 years before finally seeing the light, and it was absolutely worth the wait. Heavy distorted guitars, a snappy snare, and a bouncy pop-punk bass line give it an irresistible energy, while a relentlessly chanted chorus of “It’s St. Patrick’s Day” captures everything chaotic and fun about the holiday. The lyrics don’t shy away from honesty either, frontman of Self Run Will admits “I’ve been sober for a year, but tonight…all I want to do is drink and fucking fight,” which is equal parts hilarious and weirdly relatable. It’s a song about goofing around with friends, leaning into the mayhem, and just letting the night unfold. Crank this one tomorrow and thank us later.
We also dug up an acoustic performance of the song and wanted to share this tender version.
