Scottish artist Aidan Cross has revealed his sixth studio album, Boy Get Behind Me.

Aidan Cross – Boy Get Behind Me

Proudly calling it his best work to date, Scottish musician Aidan Cross presents his sixth album, Boy Get Behind Me. An eclectic and varied record, it allows the listener to glimpse a period in Aidan’s life filled with emotional moments, from lapses of anger to heartfelt tributes. This is a ride that takes you through a one-of-a-kind aural experience.

Across its nine tracks, Boy Get Behind Me excels at throwing curveballs, thriving on its sheer musical versatility and constantly keeping you engaged. From the indie, melody-driven approach displayed in the opening tracks XL Bully and We Wasn’t Always Like This, the album balances melodious instrumentation with raw, euphoric vocal performances, with the latter track showcasing a clear influence from The Strokes.

Shifting gears effectively, Influenza Culture evokes the urgency and fast-paced energy of post-punk while adding distinctive touches, such as its hallucinatory guitar work.

There are also pleasant surprises like Share With The Class, which features Aidan’s brothers, Seumas and Iain. The track shifts between spoken verses and a catchy chorus, standing out as one of the most fun moments on the record.

Not everything leans into high energy, though. Winner slows things down with a more laid-back arrangement, where the acoustic guitar and harmonica take centre stage, creating a compelling chapter in the LP.

In a similar vein, Boy continues with a more restrained pace, while still delivering one of the most emotionally striking performances on the album.

With Girl, the energy returns, along with a welcome change. Instead of Aidan on lead vocals, backing singer Grace Clifford takes centre stage and, quite frankly, knocks it out of the park with her commanding voice.

To wrap things up on a high note, Where the Wild Things Are revisits the spirit of early 2000s rock, drawing comparisons to bands like The Strokes and Interpol, while also serving as a touching tribute to his late grandfather.

“Boy Get Behind Me is a clear example of independent music that comes from the heart. The level of commitment and passion throughout is almost palpable, showcasing a creativity that does not go unnoticed.”

While exploring the ever-expanding landscape of the internet’s independent scene, listening to an artist like Aidan Cross always brings a smile to my face. He is a musician driven by motivation and a heartfelt desire to keep crafting music that connects, while staying true to artistic honesty. His sixth studio album highlights his growth and maturity, one that will hopefully take him to even greater heights.
