Panic Shack Return with Righteous New Punk Anthem ‘grin & bear it’

Cardiff punk quintet Panic Shack have unleashed “grin & bear it,” their first taste of new music since their self-titled debut album secured a UK Top 40 spot last July. Produced by Ross Orton, the furious new track lands on the eve of the band’s debut North American headline tour and arrives alongside a chaotic, self-directed music video captured during their recent live run in Germany.

“grin & bear it” marks an explosive reintroduction to the Welsh five-piece, who have spent the months since their debut album dominating stages across the UK and Europe. Originally written during a grueling nightshift by vocalist Sarah Harvey in 2023, the song narrowly missed the cut for their debut LP before being entirely revitalised this year. Teaming up with acclaimed producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, Amyl & the Sniffers), the band has injected the track with a massive wall of beefy, driving guitars and a gritty edge that finally matches the song’s anti-rat-race message.

Of the track, the band explain,

“This song has had many iterations, seen many a practice room and taken many forms. It’s a song that we’ve felt really passionate about getting right but the music was never fully hitting. We reworked it from the start of the year in any spare time we had around working our jobs and gigging (as we almost always do) which really helped to emphasise the songs meaning. It almost made it onto our debut album but it just wasn’t where it needed to be, we felt it didn’t have enough grit – until now. We really clicked with Ross in the studio and are super proud of what the track has become, it sounds massive.”

The single lands alongside an accompanying music video that perfectly captures the band’s signature blend of camaraderie and unhinged energy. Filmed completely “method” and directed by the group themselves while on tour in Germany, the visual is a whistle-stop tour of green rooms, graffiti walls, and monument photo-ops. The release acts as a perfect primer for a relentlessly busy summer that kicks off on June 9th with their first-ever headline tour of North America, crossing the continent from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles.

The summer blitz doesn’t stop there; Panic Shack are poised to bridge the gap between emerging icons and punk royalty. Alongside major festival slots at Green Man and Latitude, and a massive European run spanning Switzerland, Belgium, and the Netherlands, the band will support Super Furry Animals in Llangollen. They are also scheduled to return to the States this September for a high-profile run opening for The Sex Pistols, which includes a coveted slot at the CBGB Festival, cementing their transition from DIY underdogs to global punk contenders.
