Bristol alternative trio Grandmas House have officially announced their long-awaited debut studio album, Baby You’re A Winner, set for release on August 21st via Brace Yourself Records. The highly anticipated announcement is paired with the drop of the record’s infectious title track, alongside a tongue-in-cheek, retro game show-inspired music video produced by Clump Collective. Marking a significant creative leap forward, the album sees the band expanding their signature sound across twelve brand-new tracks.
The title track provides a perfect three-minute distillation of the trio’s elevated musicality, driven by taut, springy basslines and intricately interlocking guitar riffs. At the emotional centre of the track is guitarist and vocalist Yasmin Berndt’s distinctively syrupy, raspy bark, which cuts through sumptuous layers of vocal harmonies. Lyrically, the song acts as a driving rock ‘n’ roll love anthem dedicated to pulling friends or partners out of dark spaces, tackling the specific, everyday frustration of watching the people you love struggle to recognise their own inherent worth.
Of the single, the band explain,
“‘Baby You’re A Winner’ is a rock n roll love anthem about seeing the beauty in your loved ones when they can’t. It’s about the frustration of your friends or partner not being able to see themselves for the winner they are – an ode to bring you up when you’re feeling down.”
To bring the twelve-track album to life, Grandmas House teamed up with acclaimed producer Ali Chant, whose stellar pedigree includes landmark records for PJ Harvey, Perfume Genius, and Yard Act. The resulting collaboration showcases a definitive levelling up for the Bristol outfit. Moving far beyond the raw, minimalist frameworks of their previous trilogy of EPs, spanning from their 2021 self-titled debut to 2025’s Anything For You, the new material places a heavy emphasis on meticulously crafted arrangements and rich vocal arrangements to create their most layered, expansive body of work to date.
