James White & The Wild Fire Release New EP How To Replace Anxiety With A Broken Heart

James White & The Wild Fire have released their long-awaited new EP, How To Replace Anxiety With A Broken Heart, a five-track collection that represents some of the band’s most complete, accessible and emotionally resonant work to date.

Blending their signature mix of country, Americana and psychedelic-bluegrass influences, the record delivers a driving sense of energy, sparkling musicianship and compelling songcraft, capturing a cathartic exploration of inner turmoil and personal transformation. Across its five tracks, the band successfully channels the urgency and electricity of their acclaimed live performances into the studio environment, while showcasing an instinctive gift for memorable melodies and emotional storytelling.

Even before its release, the EP had already begun making waves, reaching Number 1 in Rock and Number 2 in Country on Amazon Music’s pre-order charts, signalling strong anticipation for the group’s return after nearly three years away from the spotlight.

Formed in 2019, James White & The Wild Fire have steadily carved out a distinctive niche at the crossroads of psychedelic folk rock and traditional American roots music. Their sound combines expansive, atmospheric textures with the structural precision of bluegrass and Americana, all anchored by the direct and emotionally unfiltered songwriting of band leader James White.

For White, the EP marks a deeply personal turning point. Written and recorded between 2022 and 2026 during a period of heartbreak, confusion, loss and upheaval, he describes the project as a “metamorphosis”:

“I feel this EP is a metamorphosis,” says White. “What was blueprinted as lyrics, chords and scratch tracks written and recorded between 2022 and 2026 during a time of immense heartbreak, turmoil, confusion and loss became one of the most beautiful and sincere things I have ever made. I couldn’t be more proud of this EP, the musicianship of the members of this band, and how they brought the concept of it to life. It immortalises the lowest period of my adult life and created something that I am so excited to show the world.

I hope those that resonate with the themes tune in to the message that such levels of loss, heartbreak and pain are all part of a journey, that there is another side beyond what feels like an inescapable void, and that even when we carry our loss with us, there can be immense joy, freedom, validity and peace on the other side. I hope you enjoy the incredible musicianship put on full display by Brooke, Lee, Joe, Mike and myself. We left everything out there for you.”

The band’s return follows a series of notable successes. Their debut EP Making Tracks and the acclaimed follow-up Live at Saffron Hall, recorded during a sold-out hometown performance at the prestigious venue, helped establish them as both a captivating live act and a sophisticated studio project. The group has also enjoyed multiple Number 1 positions on Amazon UK’s download charts, securing three chart-topping releases in Country and two in Folk.

Their March 2023 interpretation of the traditional bluegrass standard Little Maggie marked the band’s final release before stepping away from public view following a sold-out tour-closing performance in October 2023.

Since then, James White & The Wild Fire have entered what White describes as a “new phase”, one that is more intentional, reflective and potentially finite. The announcement that How To Replace Anxiety With A Broken Heart may serve as the band’s final body of work has added further significance to the project.

The EP chronicles a period of profound personal upheaval, examining themes of heartbreak, anger, confusion and eventual emotional recalibration. Musically, it also represents a significant evolution, pushing further into psychedelic territory while maintaining the roots-driven instrumentation that has become a hallmark of the band’s sound.

Lead single Bonfire offers an early glimpse into this progression, beginning with measured restraint before unfolding into a powerful and emotionally charged crescendo.

White’s artistic journey extends beyond the band itself. Prior to forming The Wild Fire, he completed two full European tours as a solo artist, with a planned third tour ultimately curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With How To Replace Anxiety With A Broken Heart now available, James White & The Wild Fire have delivered what may be the defining statement of their career. Through emotional honesty, ambitious sonic exploration and exceptional musicianship, the band have transformed personal hardship into something universal, offering listeners a reminder that healing and hope can emerge from even the darkest moments.

Whether it proves to be a new beginning or a final chapter, How To Replace Anxiety With A Broken Heart stands as one of the band’s most accomplished releases to date.
