Interpol have shared their latest single, “Iron City,” marking the third preview of their upcoming album, This Mirror Weighs a Ton, which is set to release on August 28th, 2026, via Partisan Records.
The new track explores a thematic tension between past and future, featuring lyrics from Paul Banks that touch on recurring dreams and solitary moments in New York’s Central Park. Built around interlocking guitar work, a propulsive rhythm section, and atmospheric production, the track finds its centre in the recurring refrain: “I can feel your love, iron city.”
Produced by Andrew Wyatt (ROSALÍA, Charli xcx) and mixed by David Fridmann (Sleater-Kinney, MGMT), This Mirror Weighs a Ton expands Interpol’s traditional musical palette by introducing strings, woodwinds, acoustic guitar, and layered vocal harmonies. The recording sessions took place at Wyatt’s studio on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, marking the first time the band has recorded an album in their native New York City home base in over a decade.
“Iron City” follows the release of the album’s first two tracks, the expansive title track and the sharper, classic-sounding “See Out Loud,” the latter of which features a rare vocal contribution from guitarist Daniel Kessler.
The album announcement and its preceding singles arrive amid a busy live schedule for the New York band. Over the past two years, Interpol have headlined international festivals and arena dates across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, including a massive free performance for over 200,000 people at Mexico City’s Zócalo. After debuting new material at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival earlier this year, the band is scheduled to begin a 23-date North American headline tour next month. Following those dates, Interpol will head across the Atlantic for a special appearance at London’s Outbreak Festival on August 23rd, followed by an 18-date co-headline European tour alongside Bloc Party.
