Spencer Sanders makes a triumphant return with his latest single “Repear,” a track that boasts an undeniably catchy melody from start to finish. Anchored by a classic folk spirit, the song features a beautiful arrangement of bouncy guitars and banjo that immediately draws the listener in. While the track leans into a rambling lyrical style, every single word carries immense strength and purpose. Sanders introduces deep existential reflection with the captivating line, “who am I supposed to be at this part of my tragedy?” Interestingly, the melody often leans toward musical theatre, showcasing a powerful, resonant voice that could easily find a home on Broadway. Ultimately, “Repear” solidifies Spencer Sanders as a folk songwriter who you should absolutely be paying attention to. Check it out now:
I wrote “Reaper” after realizing I had survived the worst seasons of my life and somehow still had the softness to dream about the future. For so long, my life was defined by survival—by mental health struggles, identity crises, and the constant work of becoming myself in a world that made that feel impossible. When I finally came through the other side, I found myself asking a new question: Who am I when my art is no longer only inspired by pain, but by possibility? “Reaper” came from that strange and beautiful place. I wasn’t afraid of death anymore, but I was suddenly so excited to live. The years had tried to harden me and break me, but they didn’t take my hope. They didn’t take my tenderness. If anything, surviving made me more determined to create something meaningful with the time I have. This song is about wanting the years to stretch long enough for my dreams to become real—for my songs to grow into something bigger than me, for my life to keep unfolding, and for the Reaper to wait until I’ve done the work I believe I’m here to do.
