Coming with an anthem about change amidst unexpected circumstances, four-piece Native Son have shared their latest track, Dead Man Walking.

Native Son – Dead Man Walking

Formed in 2018 and based on Long Island, New York, Native Son have maintained their original lineup since the beginning, consisting of Lou Megna (vocals, guitar, piano), Tim (guitar), Rob (bass), and Ray (drums). Since their foundation, Native Son have built a loyal fanbase in their native Long Island, while also receiving radio airplay both across the US and internationally.

Following the release of their 2024 EP, Trains, Native Son are back with Dead Man Walking, a song that, in simple terms, is about transformation. After a failed relationship, the protagonist encounters a new person who becomes his Muse and subsequently inspires him to find a new direction, creating through words and music.

This inspirational story comes to life through the song’s soothing musicality, comprised of chill acoustic guitar passages and piano, although the electric guitar takes center stage, particularly during the refreshing solo near the end. The track certainly evokes a 90s alt-rock sound, making it an enjoyable throwback for anyone with a soft spot for that era.

As an interesting detail, the concept of the Muse is also reflected in the artwork for this single, which takes inspiration from Gustave Moreau’s 1891 painting Hesiod and the Muse. Elements of the original painting, including the flowers, Parthenon, and bright star, have been incorporated into the artwork, creating a connection between music and artistic inspiration.

Dead Man Walking is a delightful piece of alt-rock, as soothing and enjoyable as it gets. This is one of those tracks that can easily brighten up your day!

Dead Man Walking is the first single from Native Son’s forthcoming album of the same name. Stay tuned for further news about Native Son and their upcoming releases.
