Connecticut alternative rock outfit Anxious have released their fierce new single, “Secret Weapon,” serving as the direct follow-up to last month’s release “Don’t Move.”
Together, the two tracks mark the band’s first new material following their acclaimed second album, Bambi. Driven by heavy, blown-out guitar riffs, “Secret Weapon” showcases a punchier, riff-centric direction while retaining the expansive, widescreen songwriting that defined their sophomore LP.
Guitarist and co-vocalist Dante Melucci offered a sharp critique of the industry forces that inspired the new track:
The ‘Secret Weapon’ is the business of music, the weaponization of the stats and current fads to decide who you are as an artist, and who you should strive to be. I’m seeing artists with this objectivity in their style, their songs, that to me just comes across as desperate; I don’t believe that something beautiful can be created in a lab.
The new release arrives as Anxious continue their nationwide run supporting labelmates Citizen, where “Secret Weapon” and live staple “Don’t Move” are featured in their current setlist. “Secret Weapon” is available to stream across all major platforms now.
