Leeds ponders the mystery of love on ‘Watermarked’
Wondering about the inherently mysterious nature of love, South Korean singer-songwriter Leeds has released her latest musical offering, Watermarked.
Hailing from South Korea, Leeds is a singer-songwriter whose music sits somewhere between ballad, R&B and electronic music. Better known for her hit song You Will Be Happy Without Me (그댄 행복에 살텐데), she has also contributed music to various Korean drama soundtracks while amassing thousands of streams throughout her career.
For her latest creation, Leeds collaborated with French producer Doubtless, with their team effort resulting in Watermarked, a track that explores a deeper theme than some of her previous work. The composition approaches love from a philosophical perspective, wondering what it really is, where it comes from, and why human beings need it so badly. We are always trying to fill that void with pleasure, excitement, other people, or new experiences, only to discover that the emptiness remains, almost as if love were a watermark imprinted within all of us, making us wonder why it is there and what purpose it serves.
Taking advantage of Doubtless’ prowess as a producer, Watermarked welcomes us almost immediately with a thick layer of electronic textures, while a fast-paced beat accompanies Leeds’ vocals, which are enhanced by Auto-Tune effects, blurring the lines between playfulness and sensibility and giving us a short yet highly endearing sonic experience.
Watermarked is over two minutes of electronic music delight, tackling love from a unique perspective and excelling through its compelling lyricism and polished production.
Demonstrating why she has built such a significant career up to this point, Leeds has delivered a wonderful single that showcases her maturity as both a performer and songwriter, truly making all those streams and views well deserved.
