Manchester quartet Wyatt sign to cult label Heist or Hit and release their debut single ‘Morning’ ahead of touring in support of Westside Cowboy and their debut headline show at The Abbey on December 11th, which has now sold out.
Youthful, authentic, and fidgety, the ‘ooohs’ at the start of opener ‘Morning’ feel like a recalibration. A tangible throwback to a time of garage bands, analogue gear and cassette decks. Sonically it inhabits a timeless blend ofjangly college rock, bittersweet nostalgia, and slacker-country charm.
“Morning came together really quickly. The initial idea came after we’d played a gig where the guitar amp broke and then we stayed in a weird bnb in bunk beds. The next week we took it to rehearsal and by the end of the rehearsal it was basically the version of it that it is now. Getting the song together that quick made me think we had just got really good at being Wyatt after playing loads over a short time. It isn’t trying to be too clever or wild, it’s just a song we like to play. You can’t go wrong with oohs in a chorus either, so it was satisfying to put them in. Morning is a song that feels like Wyatt to us”
The compulsion to release an official single only when the time is right is a notion to which the band have stuck to their guns, having released several demos and live version on Bandcamp. The band discussed this and more with IINAG here.
