HMLTD have released their new single “Umami,” the latest preview of their forthcoming third studio album, FANGS, set for release on October 23rd via Lucky Number. Mixed by Nicos Kennedy (Machine Girl, Femtanyl), the release arrives alongside the announcement of a UK tour kicking off in February 2027.
Following previous singles “I Used To Ride In Limousines” and “Blitzkrieg,” “Umami” sees the band trading the orchestral rock-opera arrangements of 2023’s The Worm for side-chained four-to-the-floor beats, rave synths, and bloghouse-inspired production. The track serves as a focal point for the album’s newly forged genre direction, dubbed Götherdammerüng (or ÜberGöth).
Elaborating on the dual nature of the dancefloor-ready single, HMLTD shared:
“‘Umami’ is the closest thing we’ve ever written to a club track. Inspired by bloghouse, eurotrash and recession-pop era EDM, it is at once a celebration of the club as a conceptual meta-space for dionysian excess and expenditure, and an indictment of the club in its modern form, where it could not be further from this ideal.”
Written and recorded following a lineup shift, with Theo Spark and Andrei Martynchyk joining founding members Henry Spychalski and Duc Peterman, the album was conceived in a ruined château in the Loire Valley. Drawing inspiration from classic EBM and goth pioneers like Fad Gadget, DAF, and Bauhaus alongside modern hyperpop and sleazepop influences, FANGS channels vampire folklore and digital angst into a darkly satirical reflection of modern decay.
“Umami” is streaming now on all major platforms, with FANGS available to pre-order ahead of its October 23rd release.
