Brighton-based singer-songwriter Alina has released her sophomore EP, Cordially Invited.

Following the success of her previous single, Loverboy Leave, Brighton’s own Alina is releasing Cordially Invited, her second EP, which mixes some dark and confusing things she was going through at the time with a pleasant rock-pop-infused sound influenced by the likes of Avril Lavigne, Olivia Rodrigo and Rachel Chinouriri.
In the self-titled opener, Cordially Invited, Alina manages to blend heartfelt sentimentality with what is quite frankly some of her most honest and blunt songwriting yet, pouring her heart out with lines such as: “You’re cordially invited to shut the fuck up”.
Falling under a similar thematic line but increasing the decibels, (I’m) Good Enough For Me sees Alina reassure herself of her value as a person and choose her sanity over someone who should know better, all while backed by that aforementioned rock-pop sound that brings a more intense edge to her sharp lyricism.
Arguably inspired by a personal experience, Alina wrote Bad Decisions after moving to Amsterdam in 2020, introducing a smoother, pop-oriented sound in comparison with the previous tracks. It allows us to see another facet of Alina, one that is a bit spicier but self-aware at the same time.
Shifting gears even further, I Think… features a soothing piano performance and, even more impressively, another glimpse of what Alina can do as a singer, with her vocal rendition hitting high notes with a remarkably delicate grace. While the production and accompaniment are more subtle here, the quality of the performance is such that, quite frankly, there is no need for anything extra aside from the elements already mentioned.
Ending everything with a banger, Horribly Right evokes that Olivia Rodrigo influence with a more theatrical and over-the-top pop tune, leaving us emotionally exhausted by the end but also experiencing a very cathartic release.
Cordially Invited is a fun and unforgettable glimpse into Alina’s world, a remarkable collection of five songs showcasing her versatility, performed by an artist with an undeniable background and likability.
Taking things further, Alina will be performing around the south of the UK in two different regional competitions this month, sharing songs from the EP. Additionally, she is then taking a trip to Seattle, LA, and Nashville to perform her songs at open mics across the pond and work on her long-awaited debut album.
